30's Repro UFO Completed

Originally this quilt was going to be a queen size but it has ended up only a lap quilt in my desire to complete UFO's and loss of interest in 30's reproduction fabrics as well as Dresden blocks. This quilt became a problem because the size of the blocks did not work out mathematically.....very frustrating.

Notice how I was not able to line up the 2 inch patches. Just could not make it work. I also had to cut off the bottom of the center block. My flower pot is only half there. Even with that adjustment I couldn't work out the math.

Center with 4 Dresdens without the inner and outer borders.

Trying out border fabrics. I really wanted a nice floral for the outer border but it just wasn't in my stash.

Completed quilt top. Measures 44 by 65.

Dresden Blocks done in 30's Repro Fabrics.

My 4 Dresden blocks have been laying in a drawer waiting patiently to be sewn into a quilt. I do have the center hand appliqued and recently did some sewing blades together to get a 5th block done. Here is the center:

This center will have a 6 inch checkerboard border with 12 Dresden blocks surrounding with additional checkerboard between the blocks. Here is one of the Dresden blocks.
The background is a pale yellow with lots of yellow, orange and blue repro fabrics with a dash of greens and pinks.

Hexagon flower UFO done

When I started making these hexagon flowers using the Scrumptious fabric line by Moda I envisioned a queen size quilt on my bed. With so many quilts I want to do my queen quilt ended up being 45 x 52....a small lap, baby quilt size or wall hanging. I even used some mini applique blocks with the 9 patch alternate blocks. Love the fabric and pieced together the backing with the remaining fabric.

Retreat at Outlaw Ranch, South Dakota

Here in N.E. Wyoming we are fortunate to have 2 reasonably priced locations for quilt retreats: Outlaw Ranch and Ranch A. This weekend I am at Outlaw Ranch working on panel quilts, lots of flannel and snowmen that will eventually go to grand children.

Borders will be added when I return home.

Pieced Hexagons

While going through my stash of UFO's I found my started pieced hexagon project using 30"s reproduction fabrics. I love these and want to get started back into making more. I have changed my mind about the using the navy blue between the "flowers" and want to use white instead.

Mickey Dupre is the master designer of these awesome pieced hexies. Love her books.

I will change the navy blue to white hexagons. I amusing Paper Pieces 1 1/2 inch size hexagons.

A Couple of Finishes

My Saturday was spent machine binding 2 quilts. The first one is the Nine Patch Scrappy with the offset sashing. It is queen size and went on my bed.

Quilting was done on Avante Handi-quilter.

The other quilt I finished this weekend is a modern lap quilt done in blues and oranges.

Stella Blue Quilt Pattern

On my quest to use scrap fabric stash I chose this pattern, Stella Blue, with lots of stars and flying geese in blues and tans. Took a whole weekend to get the cutting done for a queen size quilt. In a tub now ready for sewing....

Pattern is Stella Blue by Miss Rosie Quilt Co.
