Simply Stacked Boxes Quilt Top Finished

This top went together so easily and much faster than I imagined. It's all about the fabric and I love this stuff.

Simply Style Stacked Squares

Finally I got into my teal turquoise stash after deciding to make the Simply Style Stacked Squares quilt by Moda. Here are the directions to making this quilt. Click here.

I am making my quilt bigger so will be adding about 7 more squares. Also I didn't have a layer cake or jelly roll so I cut all my pieces. I kept the strips for outer borders in one pile and inner borders in another pile.

Then I sewed all the inner borders first onto the squares doing 3 and 4 squares at a time to keep track of the fabric.

The hardest part is getting them laid out to look like they are stacked. Still working on this on the spare bedroom floor.

Henry Glass's "Whoooo Me?"

So fun and easy putting together this owl panel from Henry Glass's line of fabric called "Whoooo Me?" I love the colors and can't wait to start quilting it. I did change the inner border to a brown that I had in my stash instead of what the pattern suggested. Thought it needed more framing in before the outer border. The pattern is a free download from the Henry Glass website. This one is for my grandson due in July.

Alaska Quilt

My husband had requested a quilt based on Alaska where he spent his childhood. I have previously shared pics of some of the blocks here and a couple of days ago I finally put the borders on and now have another quilt to get quilted. The story of my life. The backing will be the same as the outer border in flannel.

30's Reproduction Fabrics Jacob's Ladder Block Quilt

For a dear friend retiring I made this quilt using 30's reproduction fabrics with the traditional Jacob's Ladder block. I absolutely love how this turned out and plan to made another one for my mother. The blocks are 6 inch finished and the one I make for my mother will be 9 inch blocks. The quilting is mostly in the ditch with some stitching crossing diagonally across some of the 4 patches.

Easy Angle Ruler

The Easy Angle Ruler is my new very best way of making half squares. This is the ruler Bonnie Hunter uses for all of her triangles and I took her word for it and finally bought it and used it for the first time. I don't think I will ever make another half square without it.

Here is the scrappy block I am making using 30's fabrics.

To make the half squares you cut strips of the 2 fabrics you want the size of the unfinished block. In my case it was 3 1/2 inch strips.

Place strips right sides together. Pressing with a hot iron helps "seal" the fabrics together for easier, more accurate cutting. These 2 strips definitely needed pressing.

Make a straightening edge on the left side of strip set. Then place the ruler with bottom edge along the bottom side of strip set and the top of the ruler should measure the size of the strip. Mine was 3  1/2.

Make your cut then flip the ruler over placing the black tip of the ruler off the bottom edge of strip set and cut.

Ready to sew. How easy is that???? I was amazed at how accurate my squares were after pressing. No trimming needed unless my sewing was off. If you don't like the little dog ears then you will want to trip those off. I left mine on.

Here are some of my blocks done. They finish at 6 inches. So loving making this scrappy quilt.

Midget Applique Blocks

A few months ago one of my favorite quilting shop sites, Sentimental Stitches, had a sale on their downloadable patterns and I couldn't resist buying the Midget Blocks and the Midget Applique Blocks. Finally last night while watching tv I quickly and easily put together these two cuties. They will finish at 4 1/2 inches and I am making them on the diagonal so they will be set on point. Using some of my favorite Moda fabrics in spring and summer colors which I use all year.
