Quilt Camp

Finally I am getting some pics on here of what I worked on while at Quilt Camp for 3 nights and 4 days. Cal-co Quilter's Guild sponsors quilt camp at Camp Mishawana near Hastings, Michigan twice a year and it is a wonderful time to be with other quilters and get some serious sewing done. Members will teach classes as well but I always have enough projects and just do my own sewing.

This first top I finished is a fast and effective way to use those gorgeous border prints. This lap quilt took only 2 yards of the border print and then a variety of prints (from your stash??) that were 9 1/2 inches long and cut in different widths from 1 1/2 inches to 3 1/4 inches. The long strips make it easy to quilt too.

I have the backing already...just need to schedule time with the longarm.

This is a BOM from Sharon's Quilts and More in Allegan, Michigan. I have worked on this at several quilt camps and retreats. Except for the top border (I ran out of fabric!!) the top is finally done. Love the bright colors. It is planned to be a wallhanging in my kitchen...some day. The applique is done with heat n' bond light fusible web and will be stitched down when quilted. I like to get 2 things done at the same time whenever possible.

Country Inn done in batiks

Just finished getting 2 sets of pillow cases done to go with my version of Country Inn quilt by Blackbird Designs. This was hand appliqued and machine quilted by me. My friend, Nonnie, helped me pick out the background fabrics in the pastel blue batiks. Loved making this one.

Strip Tube Quilt

Here is my latest strip tube quilt using 2 bali-pops. This quilt was intended as a gift but it may just end up on my bed at least for a couple of weeks. I added the raw-edge applique to make the quilt bigger and add some interest. Quilting was done on longarm at Sew Unique Threads.

Another Blackbird Design Work in Progress

Not sure how this is going to look in the pictures but I am using William Morris fabrics for this Blackbird Design from the book, You're Invited. Using ricrac for vines. This will be another queensize quilt whenever it gets done....have 4 more blocks to go. Doing my usual favorite needleturn hand applique.

 My center block:

Love, love, love William Morris fabrics. William Morris designed fabrics and wallpaper in Europe during the time period when we were having the civil war. Hope you can see the designs in the fabrics which are quite intricate.

Works In Progress- Here I Go Again

Have you noticed alot of messages and blogs encouraging us to finish projects? Maybe I am just getting a bit paranoid.

Our guild, Cal-co Quilter's Guild www.turkey-tracks.org, is having a UFO Challenge. For each unfinished project a quilter completes this year (must have been started prior to 2011), there name goes in for a drawing which will be at our December guild meeting. There will be 6 winners of $25 gift certificates each to the quilt shop of their choice.

Now if there were a prize for the most projects started I would win it hands down.... pun intended. Here are just 2 more I have started recently. Hand applique of course which takes considerably more time to finish. But who is in a hurry...not me.

Here is a quilt by designers Barb Adam and Alma Allen from their new book, Weekend. This is a queensize quilt with 26 inch blocks. I am doing mine is pinks in browns.

Here are my fabrics and the first block half done. The pinks are looking much brighter in the picture than they actually are. Very civil war era-ish fabrics.

Patriots in Petticoats

Dear Quilting Friends,

This is the Patriots in Petticoats quilt that was a BOM last year to celebrate women and their participation in the Revolutionary War.I pieced it by machine and did the quilting on the longarm quilting machine at Sew Unique Threads. This quilt is made with all 100% cotton fabrics by Marcus Brothers and measures 92 x 92, queensize.

How fantastic that our local quilt shop has the AQS Millenium longarm quilting machine available for rent....with stitch regulator.... and the shop owner on hand to help with changing the bobbin, setting up, and fixing anything else that comes along. My goal is to use the machine at least twice a month to keep "current". There is definitely a learning curve and the only way to improve is to spend time on task.
