Collection for a Cause:Friendship by Moda

Every quarter Moda has been putting out a Collection for a Cause line of fabric. I had to make this recent pattern that came out with the fabric. I used some of the Friendship fabric but also alot from my civil war stash. In addition I made a smaller version of the queensize pattern doing only 13 instead of 25 blocks all hand appliqued. The setting triangles are done differently than I have ever done and like how they look.

The picture is looking very orange but the fabric is civil war turkey red, scrappy style.

Another quilt top for a sample for the shop and another one that needs quilting.

Southern Jewels

Southern Jewels, a pattern by Lesa Designs, is excellent for showing off wonderful fabrics and very easy and quick to sew. This took me about 3 hours and will be hanging in the quilt shop soon to show off the Robert Kaufman fabric line, Australian Sun. Love, love, love fall colors. This is 50 X 56...nice for a table, wall, couch, chair or end of a bed. What a wonderful pattern to use with fabrics you really don't want to cut up. Every quilter needs 3 or 4 of those kinds of patterns.

Paper Pieced Sewing Machine

Right now this little quilt is at the shop selling patterns from M&H Designs but will eventually be hung in my sewing studio with my collection of quilting and sewing related wallhangings. It is 13 X 13 in size.

Tip for paper piecing: Mark on the paper the sections that need to be the backing fabric.

Braids on Parade

A quilt designed by Carolyn Griffin and Far Flung Quilts. I added some sashingwhich was not in the pattern. This was a fun and easy pattern using the double-strip 60 degree ruler. The template provided in the pattern can be used if you don't want to spend the extra bucks to purchase the ruler. As you well know the rulers keep going up in price...must be the plastic, an oil product, I suspect. This lap size was made with Butterscotch Bali-pop with 1 inch sashing and 4 inch outer border.

Here is a close up of the free motion quilting. I did big leaves on the strips, nothing in the sashing and big flowers in the outer border. In the ditch quilting on the sashing between the strips. I like my quilts to lie flat and that includes the seams!!!
