Working on Scraps

One of my ongoing goals is to get into my 1 1/2 inch, 2 inch and 2 1/2 inch strip scrap boxes. So far I have been digging into the 2 inch strips and have divided them into 2 piles. One pile of "country" colors and the other pile is "bright or modern" colors.

I am using my "go to" pattern with the wonky sashing.

Getting the strips and blocks sorted into "country" colors and "brights".

More sorting and sorting.
Piles of strips sewn. A white or very light square in the center of each 9 patch.

I found several all country 9 patches and decided to sew them into a small quilt. The sashing strips were cut 1 1/4 inch wide, 5 inches long for the first sewn piece. Here are my 5 inch 9 patches with the first sashing piece sewn.

Here the second sashing piece is being sewn on all the 9 patches. These sashing pieces are 1 1/4 inches wide and 5 3/4 inches long. Ease in those 9 patch blocks so all are the same size.
A pic of the layout.

What each block looks like when ready for sewing rows together.

This small quilt ended up being 5 blocks across and 6 rows down. Here is the layout of 2 rows. Once you get going there is a pattern and it gets easier. Just pay attention when you get started and lay them out.

Red border?

Or blue border?

Final decision: BLUE
Now to find a backing.....

So many leftover for another day.
